
In 2018, the City of Marceline, requested an Eligibility Assessment study of the city. This entailed the Missouri State Historical Preservation Office (SHPO) to visit and assess the downtown, some neighborhoods, houses and other properties.
That assessment noted 11 properties eligible for the National Register of Historic Places (Click on each building to learn more about it and its importance in history and to Marceline). Five of these, as listed below are now on the Register thanks to the Marceline Historical Society’s efforts to preserve our city’s magnificent history.
- Uptown Theatre
- Marceline Masonic Temple #481
- St. Francis Hospital (1964)
- Electric Light Plant
- Marceline Carnegie Library
- Lincoln School (originally known as the Marceline Colored School)
- I.O.O.F./Magnolia Building
- The Coal Chute (Marceline Historical Commission failed to act fast enough to save this, and it was destroyed in 2022)
- First Christian Church
- Marceline Post Office
- Santa Fe Depot
- Gucker Coal Company
